Remember the absolutely critical Omnibus spending bill Congress muscled through at the end of last year? It was 4,000 pages that no one read and cost taxpayers $1.7 trillion.

In our Let's Cut Some Spending series, ForAmerica will chronicle parts of the 2021 and 2022 spending bills from a variety of sources that you probably don't know about - programs, grants and spending of all kinds that should have never happened in the first place and many that are still happening.

Today’s offering: $400,000 for a ‘Pride Haven!’

Democratic Congressman Emanuel Cleaver’s office touted in a press release:

Today, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (MO-05) hosted a check presentation and press conference to highlight the $400,000 in Community Project Funding he was able to secure for SAVE, Inc. and PRIDE Haven. PRIDE Haven helps ensure homeless LGBTQI+ transition-aged youth, aged 18-24, can access safe, welcoming, and accepting drop-in and overnight shelter. Individuals served find a welcoming, supportive environment as well as case management, connection to community resources, shower and laundry facilities, computer access, a safe place to sleep, and healthy meals.

Helping the homeless of any sort is laudable, but that doesn't mean this is what federal funds are meant for.

Because they're not.

That our tax dollars are going to help only a certain kind of homeless person based on their sexuality or gender identity only makes this misuse of our tax dollars worse.

Yes, without question, let's help the poor and homeless. But at the state and local level.

And without discrimination.
