White House Calls Story About Replacing Pete Hegseth 'FAKE NEWS'

National Public Radio (NPR) claimed in a report on Monday that the Trump administration was looking for a replacement for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

It didn't take long for White House Press Secretary to call NPR out for reporting "FAKE NEWS."

Leavitt shared on X, "This ⁦(NPR) story is total FAKE NEWS based on one anonymous source who clearly has no idea what they are talking about."

As the President said this morning, he stands strongly behind ⁦[Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth]," she added.

President Trump had spoken positively of Hegseth during the White House's annual Easter egg roll.

This phony story was spread on social media when Laura Rozen mentioned the report and reporter Lisa Letostak asked for a link.

Rozen could not find one, but just repeated what NPR reported.

It was barely 15 minutes later when Leavitt stepped in to clarify.

NPR had reported, "The White House has begun the process of looking for a new secretary of defense, according to a U.S. official who was not authorized to speak publicly." This was supposedly over the Signal chat controversy in which potentially classified info might have been shared with The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg.

NPR framed it as an "exclusive" story.

The outlet updated the report later to read,"White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt denied that there's an effort to replace Hegseth."

Hegseth said on Monday that he and Trump "were on the same page all the way."

Which is what Trump had said.

NPR is precisely the kind of left-leaning "news" outlet that is constantly warning about "misinformation" and "disinformation" as the gladly share precisely that often.

Do these people expect to be taken seriously? They do, and don't forget that they receive taxpayers' hard-earned money - that's the kicker.

Conservatives haven't trusted NPR for a very long time. This incident is just another reminder why and why they should be defunded.
