President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to head a new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) whose task is to cut and eliminate unnecessary parts of the federal government.
In an interview on Sunday, Ramaswamy said DOGE will pursue “mass reductions” and fight “bureaucratic pushback.”
He said entire agencies will be deleted.
He also said some of this might happen quicker than expected.
Appearing on “Sunday Morning Futures” with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, Ramaswamy and his DOGE partner Musk will strive to make the federal government more efficient, including mass firings.
Bartiromo asked Ramaswamy is he worried about, or expecting, major pushback.
“You’re gonna have pushback not just from the Left. You may have pushback from those very people who are running those departments, running those agencies,” Bartiromo said. “They want as many people as they want in there. You’re gonna want to fire people. So, how are you going to deal with that, you’re also, perhaps, looking from pushback from Congress?”
Ramaswamy said that Republicans who had promised to cut government for decades have never gotten the job done. The government has only expanded.
He and Musk plan to change that.
“Elon and I, we’re not politicians. We’re businessmen, we’re coming from the outside. Sometimes if you go inside, you become native to the system,” he said. “President Trump, I applaud him for his creativity and his openmindedness for setting this up for success in a way that hasn’t happened before.”
Ramaswamy said Team Trump administration needed to “score quick wins” to set the tone and stage for what the new administration plans to do.
Bartiromo asked if entire federal agencies will be shut down.
The answer was "yes."
“We expect mass reductions. We expect certain agencies to be deleted outright," Ramaswamy insisted. "We expect mass reductions en force in areas of the federal government that are bloated. We expect massive cuts in federal contractors and others who are over-billing the federal government."
"So, yes, we expect all of the above, and I think people will be surprised by, I think, how quickly we’re able to move with some of those changes given the legal backdrop the Supreme Court has given us,” he said.
Vivek Ramaswamy, along with his DOGE partner Elon Musk, are making some bold promises in what they plan to do with cutting, limiting, and shutting down significant parts of the United States' long bloated federal government.
Every conservative should hope they succeed. We have been promised this for so long by so many Republicans who just can't seem to get it done.
Maybe the Trump administration and DOGE will.
