Dawes County Sheriff's Office
When current Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz first ran for Congress in 2006, it came out that he had been arrested for drunk driving in 1995.
His campaign at the time made repeated false statements about the incident.
In other words, they lied.
From CNN. Yes CNN: "According to court and police records connected to the incident, Walz admitted in court that he had been drinking when he was pulled over for driving 96 mph in a 55 mph zone in Nebraska. Walz was then transported by a state trooper to a local hospital for a blood test, showing he had a blood alcohol level of .128, well above the state’s legal limit of 0.1 at the time."
Okay, it is confirmed that he drove drunk.
But... more from CNN, "But in 2006, his campaign repeatedly told the press that he had not been drinking that night, claiming that his failed field sobriety test was due to a misunderstanding related to hearing loss from his time in the National Guard. The campaign also claimed that Walz was allowed to drive himself to jail that night."
This is blatantly false.
A lie.
Walz's 2006 campaign director said back then, “The DUI charge was dropped for a reason.... The trooper had him drive to the station and then leave on his own after being at the station. Tim feels bad about speeding and has paid the ticket and apologized to his family at the time it happened.”
Yet the police report investigated by CNN found that the, "police report clearly states that Walz was transported by police to a local hospital for blood alcohol testing after being arrested. And this week, Nebraska state police confirmed to CNN that Walz was taken by a state trooper to jail."
Nebraska State Patrol spokesman Cody Thomas made clear that, “Under NSP procedure, a person suspected of impaired driving is not allowed to continue driving. In this case, the suspect was transported by the trooper and was lodged in Dawes County Jail.”
Politicians lying is nothing new.
But this man is the Democratic nominee for vice president and could potentially become the next vice president of the United States.
Why not admit you made a mistake, apologize and try to do better?
Show a little grace?
Nope. Tim Walz has been lying about his DUI for almost two decades.
Maybe someone could ask Kamala Harris about this is an interview. Oh, never mind.
