The Conservative Reaction to Trump Signing Order to Shutdown Department of Education

The Department of Education was created in 1979 under President Jimmy Carter.

Since Ronald Reagan's 1980 campaign, Republican presidential candidates have vowed to shut it down.

On Thursday, President Trump signed an executive order to do just that.

Now Education Secretary Linda McMahon will begin the process of putting herself out of a job by preparing to shutdown her department.

The executive order Trump signed directs McMahon to take “all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education and return education authority to the States.”

McMahon told The Daily Caller that the department “will continue to support K-12 students, students with special needs, college student borrowers, and others” while transferring primary control of education to the states.

When Democrats hear conservatives talking about shutting down this federal department, they behave as if Republicans are destroying education.

Nope. this administration is just giving it back to the states.

“Closing the Department does not mean cutting off funds from those who depend on them — we will continue to support K-12 students, students with special needs, college student borrowers, and others who rely on essential programs," McMahon said. "We’re going to follow the law and eliminate the bureaucracy responsibly by working with Congress and state leaders to ensure a lawful and orderly transition."

“With today’s action, we take a significant step forward to give parents and states control over their children’s education," she added.

Needless to say, conservatives were ecstatic.
