Peace is now a possibility for the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Odds are better this week than last week, anyways. If you remember, last Friday, Ukrainian President Zelensky met with both President Trump and Vice President Vance in the Oval Office. The anticipation of this meeting was that Zelensky would sign a mineral deal with the U.S. and kickstart the peace process with Russia, but that quickly fell apart minutes into the televised conversation.

During the meeting, Zelensky was aggressive, rude, and unappreciative of everything the U.S. has done for Ukraine, even after Trump pointed out that Russia would have won the war within "two weeks" if America didn't back Ukraine. Long story short, Trump kicked him out of the White House telling him to come back when he was "ready for peace."

Zelensky postured that he didn't need America's support, but after running around Europe on an unsuccessful fundraising spree and Trump pausing all military aid to Ukraine, he changed his mind. Trump announced during his address to the joint session of Congress that Ukraine was now ready to sign the mineral deal and negotiate peace with Russia.

Trump's presidential campaign was predicated on several promises, including putting America first, restoring peace, reducing wasteful spending, advancing tech and artificial intelligence, and keeping China at bay. The mineral deal that Trump has been trying to broker falls into all of these categories.

The deal puts America first - using our leverage to benefit the country economically and curtailing Russian expansion and Chinese enterprise. It lowers the temperature with Russia, by moving past the war with Ukraine and creating a financial tie to the West. Ukraine's rare earth minerals are crucial for creating microchips. The U.S. needs these microchips to build computers, cars, and servers to run the growing artificial intelligence industry and to maintain a military advantage over China. The minerals are incredibly valuable and would effectively pay the U.S. back for the aid we've provided to Ukraine. The deal is the first step in the peace process. All of these things work together towards Trump's campaign goals, and Zelensky finally seems ready to capitulate to Trump's demands.

This morning, Ukraine reported that Putin had carried out a massive attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. For a minute, it felt like the mineral deal could fall apart, but all it took was a quick Truth from Trump to put things back on track - he threatened Russia with sanctions and tariffs "until peace is reached."

Trump's Truth message worked - Putin has reportedly said he is ready for peace. Now, don't expect the Left who claimed Trump was bowing down to Putin to apologize, but the proof is in the pudding. America is no longer in the business of financing never-ending wars, it's in the business of peace and prosperity.
