Last week, after it was announced that Comcast was spinning off its television properties MSNBC and a few others, Elon Musk and Donald Trump Jr. joked about buying it.
Making left-leaning cable personalities freak out.
This was the scene on Monday when a CNN panel were panicking over the very idea, and conservative CNN contributor Scott Jennings told them what their problem really was.
They don't like losing control. The left has to control everything. That they no longer control X is why they hate it.
If they no longer controlled MSNBC - leftist conspiracy theory central - they wouldn't be able to handle it.
The entire exchange was amusing.
CNN guest host Audie Cornish questioned Jennings about networks being purchased for propaganda.
He looked really befuddled for the obvious reasons.
“I mean, is the concern that certain media outlets would become propaganda arms of political ideologies?” Jennings replied. “I mean, don’t we already have that in this country at a large scale?"
Then he really blew their minds.
Jennings continued, "I mean, also, I hear what you’re saying about X. I saw a survey this week, it’s now the most ideologically balanced user platform of any platform.”
That's all it took. Total meltdown.
Former ESPN host Cari Champion replied, “Oh, come on. Scott, stop. It’s too early. I just sat down. Can I..."
Jennings interrupted, “You’re going to be embarrassed when I tweet that after the show, but it’s true.”
Cornish jumped in, “Can I re-frame it a different way? Because the site changed radically, right? So whether you think the voices that are — it is somehow more balanced now, that’s fine. But no doubt, Musk’s influence is profound and that you open it up and now you’re there with his opinion, and he is now part of this administration. So does anyone else think that there should be this greater concern about billionaires purchasing media companies?”
CNN reported last week that X users were 48 percent Democrat and 47 percent Republican. So about a half and half balance.
Which is what Scott Jennings said. And that CNN had reported it.
National Review and Washington Post contributor Jim Geraghty asked Champion, “Would you be worried if Bill Gates controlled MSNBC?”
Who responded, “No, because he’s sane.”
Yes, that's what Jennings was working with.
Jennings explained to the panel that what they were REALLY upset about was that the left was losing complete control of all cable news and social media.
“But isn’t the issue that the left has gotten so used to controlling almost all institutional information distribution arms in this country that when one little piece of it, whether it’s X or MSNBC or anything else gets taken away, the panic is so outrageous?” Jennings asked.
“I mean, that’s how used to the left is, is having control of all of it," Jennings finished.
He's not wrong. They don't want to hear it. They can barely handle it.
So now we should hope that Elon Musk really does buy MSNBC.
