During the 2024 election, Republican presidential nominee and now President-elect Donald Trump promised to "launch the largest deportation program in American history to get the criminals out."
In a new Rasmussen Reports survey released Thursday, 72% of participants still want him to do precisely that.
And there's more.
In the Rasmussen poll, 76% said it was important to end illegal immigration.
As for Trump's promise to do this on "day one," 88% of Republicans, 39% of Democrats, and 65% of independent voters say that doing this within this short time frame is important.
On actually keeping his promise, 62% of Republicans, 29% of Democrats, and 39% of independent voters say they don't believe it's likely Trump will keep his promise.
Regarding the promise of a deportation program in particular, 94% of those who voted for Trump think its important that this happens.
The survey included 1,276 voters, and was conducted after the election, Nov. 7-11.
This poll should not be shocking.
Illegal immigration has exploded under the Biden-Harris administration, beginning with early in his term, President Joe Biden reversing or eliminating some of the executive orders President Trump had put in place to deal with this problem.
Americans everywhere, and particularly is so many cities and towns along the U.S.-Mexico border, are aching for relief and want leaders who will finally try to do something about this enduring problem.
A big part of why Donald Trump won in such a landslide is that he - unlike Joe Biden and Kamala Harris - made a sincere pitch that he would tackle America's southern border mess head on.
Voters obviously liked that message.
Now, we've even got the polls to prove it.
