Celebrity political endorsements can be so cringe.
Star Wars actor Mark Hamill just took this to a whole other level on Friday.
The actor most known for playing Luke Skywalker in the original 1970s and 80s sci-fi series performed in the White House Briefing Room.
He said 'the force' was with Joe Biden.
He even called the president 'Joe-B-Wan Kenobi.'
Yes, it was every bit as bad as it sounds.
“How many of you had ‘Mark Hamill will lead the press briefing’ on your bingo cards?” Hamill said at the podium, wearing sunglasses.
“I just got to meet the president, and he gave me these aviator glasses," Hamill, said.
When a reporter asked about his Oval Office visit with Biden, Hamill said, “I called him ‘Mr. President.’ He said, ‘You can call me Joe.'”
But then Hamill said, “I said, ‘Can I call you Joe-B-Wan Kenobi?'”
As in Obi-Wan-Kenobi, the Jedi master who trained Skywalker in the movie franchise.
GROAN.
Hamill promoted Biden, “I want to say, once again, how grateful I am, and that just shows you that one person can be so influential and so positive in our lives.”
Hamill is a well-known longtime celebrity Donald Trump basher, a position so tired and stale you have to be part of Hollywood not to see it.
These people seem to think they're speaking for the country, and while they are speaking for most Democrats, in their arrogance they seem to forget that Americans elected Trump president in 2016.
Stars Wars is a fantastic movie franchise that so many of us grew up with. Now owned by Disney, they don't appear to be anywhere near finished telling stories.
But Mark Hamill not only wasn't funny on Friday, he was sad. It was not good at all.
We can keep on loving Luke Skywalker, but too bad the man who plays him is so groveling and pathetic.
