On Saturday, July 13, an assassin attempted to take Donald Trump's life.
On Saturday, July 20, Donald Trump, still standing, held a rally in Michigan.
Undeterred.
Republican presidential nominee Trump and his vice presidential pick J.D. Vance held their first rally together on Saturday in Michigan, a crucial swing state for the Republican pair.
Trump bashed the Democrats for saying that he was “an enemy of democracy,” pointing out that he recently took a major life-threatening hit for just participating in the democratic process.
“They keep saying I’m a threat to democracy. I’m saying, what the hell did I do for democracy? Last week, I took a bullet for democracy,” Trump said
In addressing his choice of Vance for VP, Trump said he likes him “because he’s for the worker.”
The security detail on Saturday in Michigan appeared to be beefed up, in light of the attempt on Trump's life the week prior.
Which Trump addressed.
“I stand before you only by the grace of almighty God,” Trump said to the Grand Rapids crowd. “I shouldn’t be here. Maybe J.D. or somebody else would be here, but I shouldn’t be here right now."
20-year-old Thomas Crooks fired on Trump and into the crowd, killing one man, Corey Comperatore, and injuring others. Trump's ear was grazed due to a slight turn of the head. If that turn didn't happen, most acknowledge Trump would not have survived.
Crooks was killed by law enforcement.
Michigan is a crucial state for the Trump-Vance ticket. Trump won Michigan by a mere 10,000 plus votes in 2016 over Democrat Hillary Clinton. He lost the state to Joe Biden in 2020 by 150,000 votes.
Regardless, after the death-defying event he just went through, Donald Trump is still out there, hammering it hard on the campaign trail.
As for Democrats, they are a complete mess. Joe Biden announced on Sunday he ends his presidential re-election campaign and endorses Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.
November can't come soon enough.
