When Kamala Harris chose Tim Walz to be her running mate, many believed that it was because the Minnesota governor had a folksy charm about him. That could come in handy in a debate with Donald Trump's vice presidential pick, JD Vance.
It also might not. In fact, it didn't.
The Kamala-Harris ticket got slaughtered on Tuesday.
And Tim Walz couldn't even win his home county.
The New York Post reports, "Democratic vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz didn’t just lose the overall election to Donald Trump — he lost his home county to him, too."
"President-elect Trump’s overwhelmingly win saw him net 49.6% of the vote in Minnesota’s Blue Earth County, where Walz’s family lived for 20 years before he was elected governor," the Post noted. "Walz’s running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, fell short with about 48.3% of the vote."
In 2020, Joe Biden won this county at 51%. Trump got 46.5%.
Harris won all of Minnesota this election, a state that hasn't gone Republican since Richard Nixon in 1972.
Still... how'd that whole folksy-thing work out for ole Tim?
Of course, Kamala Harris herself is as phony as Walz is, which was a significant factor in why the Democrats lost the White House race. They never came across as credible, much less real statesmen with the knowledge and skills to lead the country.
They hid Harris often, let her out for select, puff piece interviews, and did the best they could to conceal what an empty-headed and substanceless vice president America had.
Tim Walz was no better.
And the people who knew him best apparently showed that with their vote.
