On Monday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre accused Fox News' reporter Peter Doocy of spreading “misinformation.”
And Doocy wasn't having it.
He asked KJP why the Biden administration was able to immediately send $157 million in foreign aid to Lebanon, but is now waiting on congressional approval to send aid to the victims on Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.
Doocy asked Jean-Pierre, “But President Biden is fond of saying ‘show me your budget, and I will tell you what you value.’ If he’s got money for people in Lebanon right now without Congress having to come back, what does it say about his values? There is not enough money right now for people in North Carolina who need it."
“That’s not misinformation," he insisted.
“No, that is," KJP replied. "Your whole premise of the question is misinformation, sir."
“Excuse me?” Doocy pushed back.
KJP said that the Biden administration had already sent over $200 million for disaster relief.
Jean-Pierre reiterated that Congress must approve the aid Doocy asked about.
Doocy replied to her, “You can’t call a question you don’t like misinformation. That’s crazy.”
“I actually said we have the money available to help survivors of Hurricane Helene and also Hurricane Milton," KJP said. "Now, there’s going to be a short fall because we don’t know how bad Hurricane Milton is going to be, and so we’re going to need additional funding."
Jean-Pierre eventually just storms off.
Doocy's right. You can't just call information or questions you don't like "misinformation," particularly if it's true information.
But it is a good reminder that when Democrats say they need to censor in the name of stopping "misinformation" they really do mean things said that they don't like.
And to Peter Doocy's point - why is it so easy for Washington to send U.S. taxpayers dollars overseas but so much harder to send aid to Americans hurting at home.
Good luck ever getting an answer to that question from this White House.
