Donald Trump and many of his allies have claimed for years that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has become more politicized and has been used to serve certain political agendas.
Particularly against the person and allies of Trump.
Now, even Geraldo Rivera, no fan of Trump, is admitting that the FBI got "too political" and needs "a cleansing."
In the wake of current FBI Head Christoper Wray resigning and Trump's pick for the position, Kash Patel, expected to take his place, Rivera said on CNN some things about the agency viewers might not have expected.
Geraldo said, “James Comey mucked up Hillary Clinton’s electoral run and he went after the president, President Trump in his first term that, in 2017, President Trump could not — he stepped in dog crap and he just couldn‘t get rid of James Comey."
"He hounded him — another canine metaphor, but I think the FBI needs a cleansing and I think Christopher Wray was heroic in stepping down," he continued. "But I also think that the Bureau does need some profound introspection.”
During the 2016 presidential election, then FBI head Comey was criticized for holding press conferences claiming Hillary Clinton had been "extremely careless" with classified info, but ultimately did not believe she should have been prosecuted.
Rivera then talked about Patel.
“I don’t know a lot about Kash Patel. I’ve never met him, as far as I know. All I know is that he seems to me, from what I read and what I see and hear, is that he’s part of the, if not the chairman, of the lunatic wing, the Steve Bannon, Alex Jones wing of the MAGA movement,” Rivera said.
He continued to demean MAGA loyalists, saying, “You know, throw Matt Gaetz in there, if you will. But Kash Patel, if you’re looking for an objective professional, you know, resurrector, a savior of the FBI, you better not hold your breath waiting for Kash Patel to deliver. "
But Geraldo added, "I think the one thing that [former FBI agent] Scott [Curtis] said that I think is very important is that he mentioned how the FBI got too political. That is true."
"That wasn’t Trump," Rivera insisted. "That was James Comey.”
When CNN is expressing doubt about the FBI's integrity and its will to target political opponents, that's a new day in establishment media.
Even Geraldo knows the FBI is corrupt. We can only hope Kash Patel is nominated and makes the agency less so. That's a big part of the point of even nominating someone like him.
Not to help Republicans. But in the name of justice for all Americans. Equally.
Our federal agencies should be working for us, not targeting citizens at whim.
