Vice President JD Vance stuck up for free speech during a speech in Munich, Germany recently, criticizing that country for its anti-free speech laws.
CBS Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan seemed to criticize Vance and free speech in an interview with Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday, suggesting that freedom of speech...
...led to the Holocaust?
Seriously?
Rubio wasn't having it.
Vance spoke Friday at the Munich Security Conference. The Daily Caller reported, "Rubio appeared on 'Face the Nation' while in Jerusalem on the second leg of his tour of Europe and the Middle East."
"Brennan had asked what Vance’s speech and meeting with a leader of Alternative for Germany (AfD), a right-wing German populist political party, accomplished other than irritating our allies," the Caller noted. "Rubio responded by emphasizing Vance was right to point out European countries’ perceived backsliding on free speech."
The story continued, “'Well, he was standing in a country where free speech was weaponized to conduct a genocide, and he met with the head of a political party that has far-right views and some historic ties to extreme groups,' Brennan replied. 'The context of that was changing the tone of it. And you know that, that the censorship was specifically about the right.'”
Rubio pushed back.
“'Well, I have to disagree with you. No, no, I have to disagree with you,' Rubio told Brennan. 'Free speech was not used to conduct a genocide. The genocide was conducted by an authoritarian Nazi regime that happened to also be genocidal … There was no free speech in Nazi Germany … There was also no opposition in Nazi Germany … So that’s not an accurate reflection of history.'”
Rubio was right.
Brennan's premise was simply wrong.
Nazi Germany didn't support, much less have, free speech!
The Caller explained, "Nazi Germany’s leaders censored the free press, criminalized the public’s access to foreign media and hijacked the media and universities to spread propaganda as early as five years before World War II was ignited in 1939, according to the Holocaust Encyclopedia."
Conservatives immediately called Brennan and CBS out.
Brennan insults victims of the Holocaust.
Rubio's response was on-target.
Incredible exchange.
Was she trying to call JD Vance a Nazi?
REALLY?
Democrats are so desperate, she's just making stuff up.
“Why would our allies or anybody be irritated by free speech?"
