'Real Time' host Bill Maher says that Kamala Harris avoiding the press and refusing to do interviews is "more insulting" that any of Donald Trump's criticisms of the media.
Interviewing CNN's Kaitlan Collins on Friday, the HBO host asked, "What do you think about the fact that Kamala doesn't talk to the press?"
"In a way, I feel like it's more insulting than what Trump does," Maher said.
He continued, "Trump says you're ‘the enemy of the people,' which is pretty bad. What she's kind of saying is, 'I don't need you. I'm not talking to you. You don't matter. You're not relevant anymore to me.' To me, that's even worse than ‘I hate you.'"
"It's like 'I don't think about you,'" he added.
It's a fair point. The establishment media is obviously in the tank for Harris-Walz, but even with this dynamic, the Democratic presidential nominee will not talk to them.
She seems afraid of being challenged or questioned.
Kaitlin Collins replied, "I don't know if it's worse than denigrating the press on a daily basis, which is what Donald Trump did. I covered him in the White House every day as a correspondent. And, you know, oftentimes to kind of, you know, shake you if you're asking him a question, he would try to get into a personal argument with you, or just deny or lie about what you were asking about. And so I don't know if I would compare the two."
Collins ultimately agreed with Maher, believing Harris should answer questions from journalists.
"I do think she should talk to the press," she said. "I think anyone who wants to have access to the nuclear codes should be willing to sit down and take questions. And we want to have her on the show."
"I'd love to too," Maher responded. "But I'm not going to hold my breath."
After her coronation at the Democratic National Convention last week, it's been a month since Harris was nominated and she has yet to do a single interview.
She has vowed to do one - just ONE - sit down interview before the end of this month.
With six days to go, that interview still hasn't been announced.
Her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, has done many interviews and held numerous press conferences.
Harris also continues to receive the complete adoration of the media, most of which seems to have no problem with her not being questioned.
It is possible that Kamala Harris doesn't do a single interview between now and the presidential election in November.
After all, the media's job is to elect her - not to find out if she's actually up to the job.
