159 Democrats Voted AGAINST the Laken Riley Act

The Laken Riley Act would require federal immigration authorities to detain illegal aliens who commit theft-related crimes. It would also allow states to sue the Department of Homeland Security if a state's citizens were harmed due to illegal immigration.

Thankfully, this act passed the House on Tuesday.

But 159 Democrats voted AGAINST it.

All Republicans voted for it. 48 Democrats voted for it.

Yet, again, the overwhelming majority of House Democrats came out against this bill.

What the hell?

The bill is named after a University of Georgia nursing student who was murdered by an illegal immigrant near her college campus earlier this year.

This shouldn't be hard. We ARE talking about rapists and murderers here?!?

House Speaker Mike Johnson said in a statement, "Laken Riley was brutally murdered by an illegal alien that President Biden and the Democrats let into this country with their open border policy. It is hard to believe after countless horrific stories like Laken’s, ANY House Democrats would vote against deporting illegal aliens who commit violent crimes against American citizens. "

“But 159 just did, demonstrating some Democrats have ignored the loud and clear message from voters in this election who demanded secure borders, the deportation of violent illegal aliens, and laws that put the safety and security of the American people first," the Speaker said.

Johnson added, “House Republicans heard the voices of those who wanted change and voted to pass the Laken Riley Act. We will always fight to protect Americans, and today’s success is just the beginning of Republican efforts to undo the catastrophic damage caused by years of the Democrats’ failed leadership.”

Reps. Burchett and Johnson were by no means alone in calling Democrats out.

Congressman Byron Donalds wasn't having it.

And the comments kept coming.

At the moment, ICE is unable to detain and deport illegal aliens who commit minor level crimes.

The Laken Riley Act would fix this.

Laken's mother and stepfather, Allyson and John Phillips, expressed their support for this bill in an earlier statement.

"The Laken Riley Act has our full support because it would help save innocent lives and prevent more families from going through the kind of heartbreak we’ve experienced," the couple said.

"Laken would have been 23 on January 10th," they continued. "There is no greater gift that could be given to her and our country than to continue her legacy by saving lives through this bill."

Riley's parents added, "Every single member of Congress should be able to get behind this purely commonsense bill that will make our country and communities safer."

They should be able. A glaring no-brainer.

But 159 House Democrats didn't.

There are no words.

The Senate is scheduled to vote on the bill Friday.
